Senior Associate Athletic Director/SWA, Penn State University

Finish this sentence: “Because of Title IX...”

Doors were opened that allowed me to develop intellectually, spiritually, and physically, which were key to acquiring the skills, confidence, and motivation essential to making a positive impact then and now.

How have the athletic and academic opportunities afforded to you because of Title IX impacted your life? Can you imagine your life without them?

Because of Title IX, I was able to attain a great education from the University of Utah, represent the University as a member of the softball team, and help lead the program to record successes—including a Women’s College World Series appearance. Without question, my college experience set the stage in helping to shape the leader I am today, and the impact I strive to make on the lives of others. I couldn’t imagine my life without the academic and athletic opportunities I received at the University and beyond. They have greatly contributed to my ability to represent Penn State University and our athletics program in a leadership capacity—and most importantly inspire others to see their potential and provide them the support they need to achieve their goals.

Tell us about a woman who championed you in pursuing your goals. How did her influence inspire or affect you and your career?

I’ve been fortunate to have many talented and wonderful women in my life who played an integral part in my success as a student, athlete, and leader. At an early age, my mother not only encouraged me through her words of wisdom, but she also showed me that women could succeed in sports and in life. She was an avid competitor and when I was young, we spent much of our family time attending sporting events that she either played, coached, or assisted with as a team Mom. She was and is an inspiration, and she taught me that there are no limits in life.

How are you continuing to champion the next generation of women and girls in sports, and raise awareness on the importance Title IX?

I’ve been given an amazing opportunity to serve in a leadership capacity at Penn State University where I have played a significant role in educating women on Title IX, and help create an athletics environment where all women and girls in our community feel valued, supported, and inspired to achieve success all the while make a difference in society.

If you could send an empowering tweet to every woman and girl across the country, what would you send?

Embrace your awesomeness. #NoLimitsToGreatness #ThankYouTitleIX
